AJILE vs Photoshop data sets

Photoshop can make one image per name from a CSV. For jerseys the catch is raster artwork and manual sizing.

Photoshop data sets work for image-heavy, single-size pieces. For team wear with many sizes, vector names and per-piece output, CorelDRAW with AJILE is the faster route.

How Photoshop does it

In Photoshop, Image, Variables, Define lets you bind text layers (and image layers) to variables. You import a CSV or TXT file as data sets, then use File, Export, Data Sets as Files to save one file per record. The output is raster, and each data set uses the same canvas size.

How AJILE does it

AJILE works in CorelDRAW on vector artwork. It fills names and numbers per player, fits them for each size, builds shorts and sleeves and exports JPG files at the DPI your printer needs, named by size and player.

A 20-player order, both ways

In Photoshop: build the back panel at print size and resolution, which for a 70 cm panel at 200 DPI is about 5,500 pixels tall. Bind the name and number layers to variables, import the roster as data sets and export Data Sets as Files. Files come out as PSD, so a second step (an Action or Image Processor) converts them to JPG. Long names that overflow need manual fixes, and each size with a different panel needs its own document.

In CorelDRAW with AJILE: load the roster into the template. Each player's front, back and shorts are built at their size, with names fitted, and Quick Export writes JPG files named by size and part.

Which one should you use?

If the design is mostly photographic, for example a photo printed across the whole shirt, Photoshop is a natural place to build the art. You can still bring that art into a CorelDRAW template as a background and let AJILE handle the names, numbers and sizes on top of it.

Questions

How does Photoshop make one file per name?

Image, Variables, Define binds text layers to variables; Data Sets imports a CSV or TXT; File, Export, Data Sets as Files writes one file per record.

Is raster artwork a problem for jerseys?

At full print size, raster artwork must be built at high resolution, which makes files large. Vector artwork in CorelDRAW stays sharp at any size.

Can I use both?

Yes. Some shops prepare photo-heavy elements in Photoshop and do the names, numbers and layout in CorelDRAW with AJILE.
