CorelDRAW PowerClip exports unclipped: the fix

The frame looks right on screen, but the exported JPG shows the whole photo. We hit this building AJILE's photo ID tool and this is what works.

Updated 18 Oct 2026
When a PowerClip sits inside a group, CorelDRAW 2024 can export it unclipped: the frame's bounding box is right but the full image is drawn past it. The fix that held up in our production tests is to crop the image to the frame's aspect ratio before you place it in the PowerClip, so nothing extends outside the frame.

The symptom

  • On screen, the photo is neatly clipped inside its frame.
  • After File, Export to JPG, the photo appears at full size, overlapping neighbouring objects.
  • It happens when the PowerClip is part of a group, which is common in templates such as ID cards or jersey crests.

What we tried that did not work

While building AJILE PI, which places one photo per ID card, we tested the usual suggestions in CorelDRAW 2024:

  • Entering and leaving PowerClip edit mode before export.
  • Ungrouping and regrouping the card.

Neither changed the exported image. The frame's size was correct; the render still spilled.

The fix: pre-crop the image

  1. Measure the frame's width and height.
  2. Crop the photo to the same aspect ratio, centred, in any image editor, or with a script. AJILE PI does this automatically with Windows' built-in image processing.
  3. Place the cropped image in the PowerClip. Because the image now matches the frame, there is nothing outside it to show.
  4. Export again and check the JPG.

Other options to try

If you cannot pre-crop, try converting the PowerClip to a bitmap (Bitmaps, Convert to Bitmap) just before export, on a copy of the file. This bakes the clipping into the image. We have not relied on it in production, so check the result before printing a large run.

How AJILE PI handles it

AJILE PI centre-crops each photo to the frame's aspect ratio before importing it, then places it in the frame. Every exported card shows the photo exactly as framed, and one Ctrl+Z undoes the whole run if you need to start again.

Questions

Which CorelDRAW versions have this problem?

We reproduced it in CorelDRAW 2024 with a PowerClip placed inside a group. Other versions may behave differently.

Does editing the PowerClip contents fix it?

Not in our tests. Entering and leaving the PowerClip edit mode, and ungrouping and regrouping, did not change the export.

What is the reliable fix?

Crop the photo to the frame's aspect ratio before placing it, so there is nothing outside the frame to spill.
